Liquid Resistance Starter

SFAKP LRS - High Speed Servo Driven being assembled and manufactured in MKS factory in Germany. Can be used in shredding applications.

PulseTech is a leading Australian supplier of Liquid Resistance Starters (LRS) to mining, metal-recycling, cement, energy, sugar cane and water industry sectors. Our liquid resistance starters are made in Germany using the highest quality materials and components. The robust design of our liquid starters combined with quality manufacturing, results in the highest reliability in the market with minimum site maintenance.

PulseTech provides comprehensive installation, commissioning and maintenance support Australia wide for the liquid starters. We are specialists in the replacement of existing secondary resistance starters and can help you extend the life of your plant. We can specially design and manufacture starters to be interchangeable with your existing starter characteristics and interfaces so that you can easily carry out the replacement during the normal maintenance shutdown of your plant.

We can also supply parts and electrolyte salt for your existing resistance starter. Please send us an enquiry with details of your existing equipment, our product specialists will promptly assist you with your request.

Applications

  • Wound Rotor Motor starters for SAG mills, Ball mills and other types of grinding mills

  • Slip-Ring motor starters for iron ore and coal conveyor application

  • Secondary motor starters for high inertia fan applications

  • Wound Rotor Induction Motor (WRIM) starters for Shredder application in metal recycling plants

  • Slip-Ring motor starter for water pumping stations that require to limit the starting current

  • Wound Rotor motor starter for jaw crushers, cone crushers and gyratory crushers

Features of Our Liquid Starters

  • Suitable for motors with rotor voltages up to 4,500 Volts and rotor current up to 2,100 Amps and motor rating up to 18,000kW

  • Can be manufactured for wide range of specifications and Standards

  • Nearly maintenance free due to spindle-less electrode drive mechanism

  • Smooth motor acceleration due to superior control

  • Rugged and reliable suitable for harsh Australian site conditions

  • Dual LRS are available for load sharing Grinding mill applications

  • Conductivity meters (optional) for easy adjustability of resistance

  • Low current density design for longer electrodes life

  • Suitable for outdoor mounting - high IP ratings

  • Silent operation

  • Instrument to monitor electrolyte level, temperature and conductivity

  • Adjustable starting time to suit application

  • Electrodes can be manually controlled for inspection and maintenance

  • Can be custom designed to be interchangeable with existing LRS to allow easy replacement

  • Strong, robust, reinforced tank that does not deform when filled up with electrolyte.

  • Liquid starter with servo-motor operated electrodes available for applications that requires a fast response in changing resistance to avoid motor stalling. e.g., shredder motors for metal-recycling plants

  • Air cooled or water-cooled heat exchanges can be added for application that requires continuous cycling of start/stop or speed control.

Product Range

SFAK 31-101 liquid rheostat with HMI screen

SFAK 31-101
High Speed Servo Drive System

The SFAK Series covers a power range from 1,500 to 20,000 kW of engine output. They are usually used as a Liquid Resistance Starters for Metal Shredding Drive Systems due to their highly dynamic control and positioning characteristics.

The system comes fully equipped with the latest motor management system and PLC Control via Profibus or Ethernet interface. The SFAK Series can also be offered with a slip ring motor, medium voltage switch gear and a re-cooling system as part of a complete solution.

SFAK Range Liquid Starter
Anchor 1
AFA 25-105 liquid resistance starter with control panel

AFA 25-105
Smooth and Spindleless Ring Electrode System

The AFA Series is based on the original 1917 design that was produced by BEA. Their production and further technological enhancements were taken up by MKS in 2001. These Liquid Resistance Starters/Liquid Rheostats incorporate the classic BEA Ring Electrode System.

The AFA range of Liquid Starter stands out for their high current rating and power range. These starters  are rated from 2,000 to 20,000 kW , have high resistance ratio and a very low final resistance  at their minimal electrolyte concentration.

They are often used for the starting of mills, ventilators, pumps, crushers and also in sugar mills

Blade type MFA 1-4 liquid starter for smaller applications. Used widely in sugar cane mills.

MFA 1-9
Smooth and Spindle-less Blade Electrode System

The MFA 1-4 Series is an excellent choice for small to medium sized power range applications from 100 to 4,000 kW. The specially designed and patented blade electrode alignment allows for a compact design to simplify service and maintenance.

The MFA is a highly efficient and modern design that provides a very good alternative to the the traditional old-cooled starters. The high level of flexibility offered by the MFA series is an attractive alternative to oil-cooled models that can cause environmental damage in the event of a malfunction.
